PERMITS: Any sanitary sewer work from a point two (2) feet outside the building foundation to the connection to the public sewer shall be subject to the regulations of the Stege Sanitary District. A Stege Sanitary District connection permit and payment of fees are required prior to any work on the sewer lines. Connection and testing must be made in the presence of a Stege Sanitary District representative.

BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES (BPD): Designed to prevent sewage from entering buildings.
REQUIRED FOR
· All new buildings · All existing buildings having plumbing drain outlets elevation of 12” or less above the ground surface elevation of the next upstream manhole. |
AIR TEST: The Contractor shall perform low air pressure tests on the total footage of all new sewer pipeline installations after such pipelines have been properly installed. Test plugs shall be carefully placed at each end of the sections of line to be tested and the air pressure within the line increased to four (4) pounds per square inch. The test period shall be two (2) minutes and the allowable loss shall not exceed one (1) pound per square inch.
WATER TEST: For side sewer installations, a water test may be substituted instead of an air test. All openings in the piping shall be tightly plugged, except the highest opening, and the system shall be filled with water to point of overflow. All sections shall not be tested with less than a five (5) foot head of water. The water shall be kept in the portion being tested for at least 15 minutes before inspection starts; and inspection or testing of the system shall confirm that the system is tight at all points.
